SEACEX
The objectives of the State Corporation for Spanish Cultural Action Abroad (SEACEX) focus on the dissemination of the current and historical reality in Spain, covering all spheres of culture and artistic expression. Therefore, the exhibition we present now, touring different cities in order to foster cultural dialogue, is of particular relevance. This is one more initiative within the series of cultural activities that the SEACEX wants to extend to the widest range of genres and subjects, from Spain’s heritage in Europe, America and the rest of the world, to the most recent contributions of our creators.
In this specific case, the show is the result of a new cooperative effort between different institutions and of the rigorous work within an open programme. Through the suggestive and innovating gaze of some twenty-five Spanish photographers, the exhibition presents the aesthetic and social landscape of Spain’s territorial diversity, through the most recent creations in photography and video art. Thus, a catalogue of images, apparently eclectic and gathering the vitality of a country at the crossroads of tradition and modernity, unfolds before the eyes of the spectator. Taking the beauty of the selected photos as a starting point, the show offers us the opportunity to reflect on the reality and expectations of a society going through an intensive evolution but not relinquishing its roots and multiple identity marks.
To unravel reality with rigor, to overcome clichés and prejudices, to fill gaps in knowledge and art research and dissemination, are essential challenges in order to foster progress of all peoples. In this path of instruction, freedom and service to society, based on dialogue and collaboration with all people and public or private entities that can contribute positively to this venture, our aim is to explain, through the best productions of creators such as those selected for this show, the different aspects of a cultural reality that is increasingly difficult to limit to the national conventional barriers. It thus makes even more sense to open up to all influences, and to dig in the capacity to assimilate the experiences of other peoples and in the cosmopolitan nature, in short, of a global civilisation the aim of which should not necessarily be to smother traditional identities, free of recurrent isolationist trends. From this perspective, the reality of life and culture captured in the images of this show also reflects a heritage of knowledge and beauty that we want to spread in all spheres of society and in other nations. This is a window wide open to contemplation and reflection for the international community so that these objectives continue setting increasingly ambitious goals.
